Indeed: your TV can be hacked. A fact that few people are aware of today. Just like your entire home automation system can be hacked — meaning your lights, electric shutters, and so on as well. So what can a hacker actually do once they hack your TV? Perhaps we should illustrate it with what this Belgian pulled off with his unsuspecting neighbor. Starting on New Year's Eve 2022, the neighbor suddenly had unsolicited threatening messages projected onto her TV, videos about terrorist practices, or extremely loud Arabic music. And no, as a layperson, it's not that easy to just fix something like that. But how is this possible? Simple: the neighbor's son simply connected his smartphone to the correct Wi-Fi network of the neighbor and streamed the content that way. And while this may seem fairly harmless or merely “annoying” to most readers, imagine a revenge act where child pornography suddenly appears on your screen while you have visitors. Or your young children are unexpectedly confronted with the most horrific terrorist crimes, uncensored.
